In the late 1980s, the Costa Brava was still where the Spanish cultural elite spent their summers. Salvador Dalí kept his house at Portlligat. Gabriel García Márquez wrote summers away in Cadaqués. The coast between Barcelona and the French border was a stretch of fishing villages, white-walled houses, bougainvillea, and a particular Mediterranean light that artists had been chasing for a century.
This is where Marribella spent her first decades. Originally purchased in London by a Spanish socialite who soon relocated her to her summer home in the Costa Brava, Marribella was to remain here, until the journey in 2026 to Australia.
On that coast, in that era, she was perfectly at home. Top down on the road to Cadaqués, long lunches in Begur, warm evenings in a villa driveway in Tossa de Mar.
The R107 was built from 1971 to 1989 - the longest production run of any SL. The 420 arrived late in the line, with a 4.2-litre V8 and the body Mercedes had spent eighteen years refining. Of all the R107s built, only 2,148 left the factory as 420SLs.
Originally known as a car driven by mistresses of wealthy elite, it soon transcended this label to become the car of choice for celebrities, socialites, and style icons of the 1970s and 80s.
The R107 has been a dream of ours to own since we were kids. Now we finally have her and the idea of being able to incorporate this iconic car with our other love of photography was something too hard to ignore.
The undeniable style and character of the R107 brings us so much joy, that keeping her locked away except for Sunday drives was never going to do justice to our younger selves.
Taking her out on a daily basis, shooting beautiful moments in beautiful locations and sharing her with others was a much more appealing idea. We can't wait to share an amazing experience with you.
